Halifax Regional Police is investigating a vehicle/pedestrian collision that occurred this morning in Halifax.

At 8:24 a.m., police responded to a vehicle/pedestrian collision at 1894 Barrington Street. A 22-year-old man crossing Barrington Street in a marked crosswalk was hit by a car driven by a 43-year-old woman travelling north on Barrington Street. The pedestrian suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by EHS. The investigation revealed that the pedestrian ran across the crosswalk and did not leave anytime for the motorist to stop.

The male pedestrian was issued a summary offence ticket under section 125(3) of the Motor Vehicle Act for moving into the path of a vehicle when impractical for the vehicle to stop. This ticket carries a fine of $406.45.

Police remind motorists and pedestrians that road safety is a shared responsibility. Pedestrians are reminded to make eye contact with drivers and wait until vehicles come to a complete stop before attempting to cross the road at marked crosswalks.
