Attempted Robbery GO# 17-73105

Police Reports - Yesterday

On Saturday May 20 2017 at approximately 8:55 pm Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of an attempted robbery from a person in the 1000 block of Lucknow St in Halifax. The 18 year old man from Halifax reported that he had withdrawn a sum of money from a bank on Spring Garden Road and then walked toward his residence. While he was walking along Lucknow St he was approached from behind by a man that grabbed his arm and demanded his wallet. When the victim hesitated, the suspect produced a knife and pointed it at the victim. The victim put his hands out to stop the knife and the suspect pushed his hands away causing the knife to fall to the ground. The suspect then pushed the victim to the ground and punched him in the head. The victim picked up the knife and began yelling for help. The suspect fled North bound on Lucknow Street The suspect did not take anything from the victim and the victim was not injured in this incident. The suspect is described as a white man, 5’10” tall, clean shaven, having a long face, wearing a gray hooded sweater with the hood up.

Robbery GO# 17-71412

Police Reports - May 18, 2017

At approximately 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, two males were leaving the NSLC on Queen Street in Halifax, with their recent purchase. As they were walking towards Queen Street they were approached by a group of five males and one female who demanded their purchase. When they resisted they were threatened with violence and felt they were in danger so they handed over their goods.

The group of people left the area with their beer and spirits. Police attended the scene, interviewed the victims and obtained a detailed description of one of the men. The description was relayed to other officers in the area and a member of the Central Quick Response Unit noted a man walking in the area of South Park Street matching the description. He approached the male and arrested him for robbery.

The 33-year-old man is currently in police custody and the investigation is continuing at this time.

Police investigate robbery GO#17-70733

Police Reports - May 16, 2017

Police are investigating a robbery that occurred this afternoon in Halifax.

At approximately 4 p.m. officers responded to a robbery at the Shoppers Drug Mart, 5524 Spring Garden Road in Halifax. A man entered the store and handed the pharmacist a note demanding drugs. The pharmacist turned over an amount of drugs to the man, who then left the store on foot.
Officers were quickly in the area and took a man matching the description of the suspect into custody. The investigation is in its early stages.

Police Reports - May 10, 2017

While conducting speed enforcement in the 1700 block of the Bedford Highway at 1:00 a.m. a West Division member noted a black Honda Civic travelling at a high rate of speed. The member activated their emergency equipment and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and was driving in a manner on Dartmouth Road, which was dangerous to the public, and the officer terminated the pursuit. Officers are continuing the investigation and will release more information when it becomes available.

Robbery GO#17-66651

Police Reports - May 9, 2017

On May 8th 2017 at 9:30pm police responded to the area of 61 Nelson’s Landing in Bedford for a report of a robbery in progress. A 41 year old female was walking in front of that location when two male suspects approached her from behind and one of the males attempted to steal her purse. A short struggle ensued where the victim managed to keep her purse, however both suspects fled the area taking the victims grocery bag with them. Officers were unable to locate the suspects, however the property belonging to the victim was recovered. The suspects are described as wearing dark clothing. Injured Person GO#17-66685

Police Reports - May 9, 2017

Shortly before 11 p.m. on May 8th 2017 a 63 year old male was found by a passing motorist lying on the roadway, unconscious and breathing on Norm Newman Drive in Dartmouth.  HRP responded along with EHS and the man was taken to hospital with injuries that were and remain life threatening. At this time it is unknown what caused the man’s injuries. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident or have any information that may assist investigators to contact Halifax Regional Police at (902) 490-5016.

Weapons Complaint - GO#17-64565 , West Division

Police Reports - May 4, 2017

At approximately 7 p.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to the area of the Wedgewood Motel at 374 Bedford Highway for a weapons complaint. A citizen called to report that there was a man outside behind the motel target shooting with a rifle. 

HRP patrol members accompanied by members of the HRP Emergency Response Team attended the location and located six people in the back parking lot and were taken into custody without incident. Officers located a rifle as well as a hand gun.  There were no reported injuries. 

The weapons were determined to be pellet guns and no charges will be laid in the matter. All six individuals that had been arrested have been released from custody.

An 18-year-old man from Dartmouth will appear in Dartmouth Provincial court on Thursday May 4 to face charges of robbery and several firearm related offences. At approximately 7:55 p.m. Halifax Regional Police responded to the 0-100 block of Inverary Drive, Dartmouth, in relation to a weapons complaint.

The victim reported to police that he had been physically assaulted, pepper sprayed and had a sawed off shotgun pointed at him‎ while in the garage of his residence. The suspects fled the area on foot with property stolen from the victim. A description of the suspects was provided to 9-1-1 staff. HRP patrol members were previously patrolling in the area at the time of the call and observed 3 men that matched the given description running along Helene Avenue. Members gave pursuit on foot and apprehended all three men in various locations surrounding the Ira Settle sports fields.  An HRP K9 unit assisted and located the stolen property.  The victim was treated at the scene by EHS paramedics.  

Members of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division and patrol are continuing the investigation at this time. An update on charges will be released when known.

Assault GO#17-62449

Police Reports - May 1, 2017

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 30 Halifax Regional Police responded to Joseph Young Street in Dartmouth where a 50-year-old male reported being assaulted by two younger males as he was exiting a residence. The victim reported that during the struggle, one of the males attempted to retrieve a knife that was concealed in his clothing. The victim managed to fight off his attackers who fled the area on foot. The suspects are described as:

Suspect #1: White male, early 20’s, 5’7”-5’9”, blond hair wearing blue jeans, red coat with hoody and a red bandana over his face.

Suspect #2: Black male, early 20’s, 5’4”-5’5”, wearing a black ball hat, black hoodie and dark pants.

Halifax Regional Police is requesting anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has any information that may assist investigators to please contact police at (902) 490-5016.

A man who was reported missing to police on April 25 has been located deceased. 

Forty-year-old Troy Richter was last seen on April 23 at approximately 4:30 p.m. walking in the area of Rocky Lake Drive in Bedford. At 6:30 a.m. on Sunday April 30, police were called to the area of Shore Drive and Hatchery Lane in Bedford to a report of a deceased man found on the shoreline. An autopsy later confirmed this to be Mr. Richter. Foul play is not suspected.

Halifax Regional Police West Division Units were called to the area of Shore Drive and Hatchery Lane in Bedford to a report of a deceased man found on the shoreline at 6:30 am this morning.  

Forensic Identification Units were on scene and processed the area. Police are still attempting to positively identify the person and contact family members‎.   Police are not treating this death as suspicious at this time.  

More information may become available at a later date. 

Injured Person GO#17-62144

Police Reports - Apr 30, 2017

Police are currently on-scene investigating an ‎injured man who was located in the area of 100-200 Block of Joffree Street in Dartmouth.  While conducting the investigation officers have located an apartment on Lakefront Road they believe is related to the injured male. The male was transported to hospital by EHS with non life threatening injuries and the investigation is continuing. The origin of the man's injuries are currently unknown and more information will be released when it is available.

Assault

Police Reports - Apr 29, 2017

Just before 8:00 a.m. on April 29, 2017 Halifax Regional Police were called to the Chebucto Inn on Lady Hammond Road in relation to an injured party. A 39-year-old man told police he was assaulted by men who were not known to him. The man was invited into a room at the Inn and the assault took place inside, with the men leaving in a car shortly thereafter. The file is being investigated by the Integrated General Investigative Section and continues at the time of this report. More information will be released as it becomes available. Police Charge Female Youth in Relation to Stabbing GO#17-60851

Police have charged a 16-year-old female from Halifax after stabbing reported .

At 6:27 p.m. on April 27 Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of a stabbing at a residence in the 3500 Block of Robie Street, Halifax Nova Scotia. The mother of the 16-year-old victim called police to report another 16-year-old girl known to them forced her way into their home and assaulted and stabbed her daughter. The injuries do not appear to be life threatening at this time. Patrol officers located and arrested the 16-year-old suspect at her Halifax residence a short time later, a knife was recovered. The suspect is being held for court and will be appearing tomorrow morning April 28, charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon dangerous.
